In 2016, the government of Burkina Faso introduced free health care for pregnant women and children under five, and it recently committed to increasing its spending on health from 11% to 15% of its budget. These changes are helping increase the number of people visiting health facilities, but progress on key issues like nutrition and family planning is lagging. To address these challenges, in 2018, the government started working with the Global Financing Facility to improve access to maternal, child and adolescent health services to provide better quality health care to its citizens.
