Given the expiration of the Nutrition for Growth financial commitments in 2020, new, innovative and impactful commitments must be delivered during the Tokyo 2020 Global Nutrition Summit. To achieve this aim, SUN countries’ consultation and engagement will be needed to ensure the success of the Summit and the upcoming SUN Global Gathering in Nepal offered an opportunity to maintain this momentum.

The workshop session “Paving the way for Tokyo: Investing for impact and accelerating progress to end malnutrition” focused on securing new financial partnerships between governments and other financing partners (donors, civil society and the private sector). Building on the lessons learnt from previous Global Nutrition Summits (N4G 2013, 2017 Milan Summit) and SUN Global Gatherings, participants gained an understanding of how the prioritization of cost-effective nutrition actions can help leverage more resources from governments and external budgets.
