The Government of Denmark, representing the Nordic countries, in collaboration with UN Women, hosted a roundtable discussion on how to ensure a gender transformative ambition, particularly in IFI recovery plans to build back better from COVID-19. The meeting is expected to be the precursor to a follow-up meeting on the margins of the Spring World Bank/IMF meetings in 2021.

Roundtable Objectives:

  • Reaffirm commitment and concrete actions at the highest levels to ensure that budgetary allocations do not leave women behind and that women and girls must be at the heart of response plans and long-term strategies for sustainable recovery.
  • Highlight good practices of effective partnerships with IFIs during the immediate responses to COVID-19 in emergency packages, and direct measures to address a range of issues with a gender transformative ambition (health, jobs, social protection).
  • Share experiences of practical initiatives and collaborations between Governments, IFIs, and UN agencies that are integrating social protection measures in medium to long-term planning and sustaining the reopening of economies in the context of building back better.
