Brief/Fact Sheet

Sep 14,2017

An efficient system to collect vital health data is crucial to measuring progress. The Global Financing Facility (GFF) has thus prioritizes the strengthening of civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems as an important data source for monitoring progress made in ending preventable maternal, newborn, child and adolescent deaths; and as an area that has been inadequately funded in the past. A well-functioning CRVS system ensures the universal recording of the occurrence and characteristics of such vital events as births, deaths and causes of death, marriages/ registered partnerships, judicial separations, divorces/legal dissolutions of registered partnership, annulments of marriage, adoptions, legitimations, and recognitions.
